About
Software engineer, builder, learner, and curator of things worth knowing Last Updated:
Hello, I’m Ryan Lynch. Here’s what makes me tic:
- Systematic thinker - My brain thinks in systems and creates processes. I love to break things down into their most effective components and figure out how they can work together without friction. From large scale development team to our family’s grocery list.
- Pragmatic builder - I obsess over the why in what I’m building. It has to solve a real problem. I find it hard to engage in solutions that feel like they’re technology for technology’s sake.
- Optimistic explorer - I believe that life is what you make of it, so I make the most of it. I’m a new experience addict (I don’t even order the same food more than once from a restaurant).
Oh, and I enjoy a good (or bad) play on words.
How I Think About Life
I’m a husband and a dad first. Everything else arranges itself around that. I have an (almost) equal and entirely irrational love for Florida Gator sports. I love golf, but most of the time golf does not love me.
A few things that are specific to me: I’m a slow thinker. Sometimes, I know too much about what I don’t know to be able to give a good answer right away. I build home automations because solving tiny problems with code is its own reward. I keep a second brain in Obsidian where I collect everything I’m learning. You can find almost anything else about me in there.
How I Think About Work
I believe most technology problems are people and process problems in disguise. The best data platform doesn’t matter if nobody uses it. The most powerful AI won’t stick if nobody trusts it. I care about what ships and what sticks.
I carry two contradicting quotes into every project. Churchill: “Perfection is the enemy of progress.” Hunter S. Thompson: “Anything worth doing is worth doing right.” I’ve come to believe that success is knowing which one applies to the situation in front of you.
How Much Does a Polar Bear Weigh?
Enough to break the ice. Great, now that we know each other better, let’s connect. I want to hear about your ideas, where you may disagree with mine, or if you’d like to work together. My social links are at the top of my website.
